Whole Foods Cuts 1,500 Jobs As Part Of Plan To Lower Prices

Whole Foods Market said Monday it will cut roughly 1,500 jobs, or about 1.6% of its workforce, over the next two months. In a statement, the upscale grocery store chain described the layoffs as being “part of its ongoing commitment to lower prices for its customers and invest in technology upgrades while improving its cost structure.” Many of the cuts will likely take place through “natural attrition,” the company said, adding that some of those laid off workers could eventually find new jobs within the company, which has 2,000 open positions and more than 100 new stores in some stage of development.
